Imagine Three Maine Learners: The Vision for MOXIE
At MOXIE, our work is grounded in two major beliefs:
Every learner, regardless of background, deserves an awesome public education that helps them reach their full potential.
It’s entirely possible to create schools that can do this. But it takes new ideas and ways of working.
Too often, educators struggle to deliver on that goal— not because they aren’t working incredibly hard but because the systems and supports needed to reach it aren’t in place.
We’re designing a new school approach that can challenge this status quo, creating new possibilities and unleashing new resources to make our vision possible.
As part of our design process, we imagined what doing this would mean for kids, and the people who support them. We invite you to…
At MOXIE, we think that it’s entirely possible to create a school that designs and meets the needs of each of these kids— with quality, rigor, and joy. Specifically, we’re building a school with:
Innovative, evidence-based teaching and learning approaches that help educators quickly understand, adjust to, and accelerate learning for every individual student
Sustained relationships and student belonging through teaming, family and community engagement, and whole-child development and support
Real and relevant learning through highly personalized and project-based experiences, connected to the earning of real-world credentials
Deep connections for learning outside of school including via partnerships with workforce, higher-ed, and other nonprofits
Expert educators grown and deployed in more dynamic ways, allowing staff and other partners to work effectively and sustainably with students
Cross-district enrollment boundaries with networked learning sites to keep kids supported and connected to their community, regardless of physical address or mobility
Put together, by helping students understand their community, explore themselves in context, and explore their purpose in the broader world, MOXIE will create the innovative, learner-centered K-12 experiences needed to chart the future of schooling in Maine and lead the United States towards more equitable, just, and, vibrant futures for all citizens.
So, what will this mean for our three Maine kids?
Beyond this, what might our model mean for other stakeholders, including the educators, guardians, and other community members working so hard to support K-12 students?
We’re so excited to bring this vision to life, starting with our first school site in fall 2026. Join us!
