MOXIE Public Schools Community Educator (Goodwill AmeriCorps Program)
Reports to: Chief of Teaching and Learning
Location: 123 Darling Ave, South Portland, Maine
Start Date: On or About September 1, 2026
Term of Service: 1200 hours from September 2026 – June 2027
MOXIE Public Schools is thrilled to be a Goodwill NNE’s GoodHealth Works AmeriCorps program partner. This is a national program that helps strengthen the public health workforce in Maine by placing AmeriCorps members in health centers, substance use recovery programs, public schools, and other community-based organizations to address urgent community health needs.
As a MOXIE AmeriCorps member, you’ll join a dynamic, equity-driven team creating a new kind of public school—one that combines rigorous, competency-based foundational instruction with real-world interdisciplinary projects and long-term advising relationships. You’ll work in an environment that honors both collaboration and clarity, with shared curriculum, strong systems, and an uncompromising focus on student growth.
Role Overview:
This a terrific opportunity for a recent college graduate who is interested in exploring and building a career in K-12 education. Our AmeriCorps member will expand the reach and effectiveness of our whole-child, relationship-centered school model by strengthening student connection, wellbeing, and access to individualized support. Serving as a Community Educator, the member will:
Build strong relationships with students through small-group and one-on-one support during advisory and wellness blocks
Coordinate targeted tutoring with instructional staff, and support social-emotional learning and community-building activities that foster belonging and resilience.
Help track student engagement and identify early signs of disconnection so the team can intervene early.
These efforts directly advance our mission to ensure all students—especially those who are multilingual, highly mobile, or navigating complex life circumstances—develop the skills, support systems, and confidence needed to thrive. The role supports our core objectives of providing personalized support, strengthening advisory systems, and ensuring every student can access the relationships and resources needed for success.
Compensation and Benefits:
This role is administered Through AmeriCorps, but you will be a core part of the MOXIE team. Besides the intangibles of making a difference in the community and being a part of a dedicated service team, this position offers the following.
A living allowance of up to $16,800, before taxes, and paid biweekly over the course of the term
A $5,176.50 Segal Education Award (upon successful completion of the term) to apply to previous federal student loans and/or for continuing education costs at a qualifying Title IV institution
Forbearance for applicable student loans
Repayment for any interest accrued on eligible student loans during the term, paid by AmeriCorps
ACA-compliant health insurance coverage at no cost to the member from the first day of service to the last day of the last month of the term (if serving Full-time)
Childcare reimbursement for eligible members
Coverage under workers’ compensation
Support of the Goodwill NNE AmeriCorps Life Navigator
Trainings and professional and personal development opportunities sponsored by Goodwill AmeriCorps
Reimbursement for mileage to AmeriCorps-sponsored training events from Goodwill NNE
In addition, MOXIE will offer a housing stipend of $1,000 per month for the duration of the fellowship.
