Lead Teachers: Mathematics, English Language Arts, Special Education, and/or ESOL/Multilingual Education (Grades 6-12)
Reports to: Chief of Teaching and Learning
Location: 123 Darling Ave, South Portland, Maine
Start Date: On or About August 10, 2026
Contract Length: 10 Months
MOXIE Public Schools is seeking founding Core Lead Teachers in secondary English Language Arts, Mathematics, Special Education or ESOL/Multilingual Education to launch our first site in fall 2026. Dual certification is highly preferred.
As a MOXIE teacher, you’ll join a dynamic, equity-driven team creating a new kind of public school—one that combines rigorous, competency-based foundational instruction with real-world interdisciplinary projects and long-term advising relationships. You’ll work in an environment that honors both collaboration and clarity, with shared curriculum, strong systems, and an uncompromising focus on student growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Student Learning
Deliver daily, high-quality instruction in ELA or Math aligned to MOXIE’s standards and curriculum
Use data to identify learner needs and adapt instruction, supporting students’ mastery of academic competencies
Plan instruction and learning experiences aligned to shared curriculum with a multidisciplinary teaching team
Co-lead interdisciplinary Learning Experience projects that integrate academic standards, durable skills, and real-world inquiry
Manage and mentor instructional support staff (e.g. small-group educators, interventionists, tutors) working with students in your content area
Support students in developing and achieving individual learning goals through advisory and mentoring structures
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Participate in daily planning and routine collaborative data cycles to assess student learning and plan interventions
Share ownership for student outcomes across subject areas and grade levels
Engage in professional learning aligned with inclusive, mastery-based, and project-based instructional practices
School Culture & Founding Work
Build deep relationships with students, families, and colleagues as a foundation for learning
Serve as a visible school leader, modeling MOXIE’s values and norms
Participate in recruitment, enrollment, and community engagement events
Contribute to the design and evolution of MOXIE’s learning model and school practices
Qualifications
Required
Active Maine certification (or eligibility by July 2026) in grades 6-12 (including 5-8 or 7-12) in:
6–12 English Language Arts or
6–12 Mathematics or
6-12 Special Education or
6-12 Multilingual Learners (ESOL/ESL)
Demonstrated track record of supporting diverse learners to achieve academic growth
Strong collaboration and planning skills; comfort working in a team-teaching environment
Experience using data to inform instruction and drive action
Deep commitment to educational equity, student-centered practice, and results
Preferred
Dual certification in core subject area and Special Education or Multilingual Learners (ESOL/ESL)
Experience with:
Competency-based learning and assessment
Inclusive and trauma-informed teaching practices
Advisory systems or long-term student mentoring
Founding or reimagining school models
Comfort operating in dynamic, evolving school environments
