Academic Support Teacher/EdTech II or III (Grades 6-12)
Reports to: Chief of Teaching and Learning
Location: 123 Darling Ave, South Portland, Maine
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Length: 10 Months/School Year
Schedule: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
MOXIE Public Schools is seeking an Educational Technician (Ed Tech II or III) to provide one-to-one support and small-group instruction to students in grades 6-9.
Ed Tech III candidates are strongly preferred. As a MOXIE Ed Tech, you'll join a dynamic, equity-driven team creating a new kind of public school—one that combines rigorous, competency-based foundational instruction with real-world interdisciplinary projects and long-term advising relationships. Working closely with teachers, you'll be the person who helps students close gaps, build confidence, and stay on track toward mastery—every single day.
Key Responsibilities:
Small Group Instruction & 1:1 Student Learning
Lead small-group instruction and one-to-one sessions that introduce, review, and reinforce learning planned in collaboration with classroom teachers
Deliver targeted intervention and practice aligned to MOXIE's standards and shared curriculum
Adapt pacing, materials, and approaches to meet individual learner needs while maintaining high expectations
Support students during interdisciplinary Learning Experience projects, including supervising small groups of students in community-based settings (Ed Tech III)
Support students in developing and achieving individual learning goals through advisory and mentoring structures
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Meet regularly with teachers to receive direction, review student work, and plan upcoming instruction
Collect and share data on student progress to inform instruction and interventions
Participate in collaborative data cycles and contribute observations about what students need Share ownership for student outcomes across subject areas and grade levels
School Culture & Founding Work
Build deep, trusting relationships with students and families as a foundation for learning
Model MOXIE's values and norms for all members of the community
Support positive routines, transitions, and learning environments throughout the school day
Participate in recruitment, enrollment, and community engagement events
Contribute to the design and evolution of MOXIE's learning model and school practices
Qualifications
Required
Maine Educational Technician II or III authorization, or eligibility to obtain it (60 college credits for Ed Tech II; 90 credits for Ed Tech III) Successful completion of a Maine criminal history records check (fingerprinting)
Experience supporting middle or high school students in a school, tutoring, youth development, or similar setting
Ability to explain concepts clearly and adjust in the moment when a student is stuck Strong collaboration skills and openness to feedback and direction
Deep commitment to educational equity, student-centered practice, and results
Comfort operating in dynamic, evolving school environments
Preferred
Ed Tech III authorization
Coursework or experience in education, literacy, mathematics, special education, or a related field
Experience with:
Small-group instruction or academic intervention
Supporting students with diverse learning needs, including students with IEPs and multilingual learners
Competency-based learning and assessment Inclusive and trauma-informed practices
